A follow up to ‘Double Time’, ‘6 Feet Down’ is the first taste of what to expect from her debut album which is set to be released this year; a natural progression following the success of her acclaimed EP’s ‘Lost in London’ and ‘Last Flight Out’.
With a discography that blends genres, Tara Lily draws inspiration from UK dance, R&B, jazz and Indian classical. Whilst ‘Double Time’ has a distinctively electronic production featuring a drum and bass beat, ‘6 Feet Down’ represents the artist’s desire to explore new soundscapes reflecting both a different direction and a return to her classically trained roots.
Tara reveals this single is ‘about finding your way out of the deep, dark place of sadness’, melancholic vocals reverberate over jazz-infused instrumentation made up of rhythmic drums and interlaced with velvety notes from grammy-nominated trumpeter Theo Croker. ‘6 Feet Down’ delivers an alternative and atmospheric sound grounded in jazz and R&B influences creating a musical symbiosis that reinforces a feeling of depth as it echoes poignant lyrics about falling down.
Last year saw Tara Lily play the BBC Music Introducing stage at Glastonbury, support RAYE at the Royal Albert Hall and join King Krule on his London tour date. It is safe to say this gorgeous track kicks off what will be an exciting year for the artist, who is already amassing support from the likes of Jamz Supernova and Radio 1’s Future Artists with Jack Saunders.
