Located in the heart of Ashford is the Low Key Taproom, a cosy and inviting establishment on Bank Street. Every Saturday, the bar proudly features artists across Kent, providing a platform to showcase local talent while bringing together a closely-knit community.
Specialising in acoustic covers of their favourite pop and indie artists, the audience roared with excitement as Robin began the show with a fan-favourite, ‘Price Tag’ by Jessie J. Throughout the first set, Robin consistently performed hit after hit, featuring covers of both old and modern classics from Katy Perry, The Beatles and Miley Cyrus. Additionally, Robin performed an un-released original song, ‘Let’s Go to the Beach,’ which received an overwhelmingly positive response from the audience.
Throughout the interval, I chatted with members of the audience who had nothing but praise for the young performer. One guest commented: “Compared to some artists, Robin is an absolute standout.” At the same time, another added: “Robin is definitely one to look out for.”
During the second set, Robin took a different approach. While utilising their signature style, they took the audience on a journey exploring the themes of love and romance, both the highs and the lows. The audience hung on their every word as they featured covers from Adele, Little Mix, and Abba. Robin also performed two more original songs, their debut single ‘More Than Life’ and ‘Truthfully’.
Robin is a distinctive artist unlike any other I have seen before. With a “heartfelt” approach to music, their passion shines through every note they sing. Robin’s sound is a beautiful blend of different styles and influences, creating something entirely their own. Each song is splendidly crafted and exceptionally executed, from covers, mashups to original music.
As a renowned artist in Ashford, Robin has made many appearances at the Low Key Taproom and has built quite a reputation amongst the Kent music scene. Drew Harris, 37, and Richard Bennett, 45, co-owners of the Low Key Taproom, commented that “Robin’s stage presence is undeniable” and “watching them grow as an artist has been breathtaking.”
Given their accomplishments, Robin shows no signs of slowing down. They have recently been composing new original songs, including their upcoming single, ‘When You Fall,’ which will soon be available on various streaming platforms. Robin will also continue performing live, with multiple shows scheduled across Kent.
