The Best of September 2026 TNAM Staff Top Tracks of the Month By Caitlin Taylor 11 October 2026 The weathers getting worse so it’s the perfect time to find new music to listen to on your rainy commute. Listen to the full playlist to see all our favourite new releases, or carry on reading to hear about the best of the best you need to hear ASAP. 300SkullsAndCounting and Jenny Sparks – ‘The Ballad of St Nick’s Park’ As someone who also moved from Warwickshire to London, this is a personal favourite of the month. St Nick’s Park plays with nostalgic themes and sounds to create something fully new. While it may not be for everyone, it’s undeniably fresh and interesting, and proves XL Recordings continue to be one of the only labels worth keeping an eye on. For fans of: 100 gecs, B0YG1RL The Slow Country – ‘Through Your Teeth’ We’ve followed The Slow Country for a while and their string-heavy folksy rock sound is showcased beautifully in this new single which is accompanied by a romantic video shot through a rose-tinted lens. For fans of: Westside Cowboy, Gently Tender Spanish Horses – ‘Hey Man (Hey Man!)’ Having recently signed to So Young Records, half-British half-Parisian band Spanish Horses newest release is symbolic of a hazy Summer evening. Featuring some beautiful guitar work with a psychedelic edge, it’s a track that feels like the start of something big for the band. For fans of: The Velvet Underground, Big Truck Esme Emerson – ‘Woof Sibling duo Esme Emerson dropped their contemplative new single ‘Woof’, exploring ideas of feeling “trapped (or leashed) by a desperation for tenderness”. Co-written by Amber Bain of The Japanese House, who’s influence is clear, it scratches the itch for a great new indie pop track. For fans of: Marika Hackman, Angel Olsen green star – ‘lush’ Nostalgia for early 00s and 90s music and aesthetics often results in subpar copycats, but green star’s latest release manages to hold it’s own among the rest. Caked in grunge with a soft goth rock aesthetic, they’re making their own space in the over saturated London shoegaze scene. We’ve sieved through them to find the ones that should be on your radar. Listen to the full playlist to see all our favourite new releases, or carry on reading to hear about the best of the best you need to hear ASAP. untitled (halo) – ‘aimee lou wood freestyle’ https://youtu.be/7NczCqYZyQA?si=eMITVhrRnwBB0N_z In a cramped attic at the end of 2024, I took photos of untitled (halo) during Pitchfork festival. It was so busy I had to shove my way to the side of the room then clamber up on top of a sofa to attempt to catch a shot of their faces. After remaining pretty quiet for the last year, they’ve returned with the beautifully titled ‘aimee lou wood freestyle’ combining the classic shoegaze-y sound with something grungier and more electronic. For fans of: Frost Children, The Hellp June McDoom – ‘Without You’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVAHCpK4V4M&list=RDQVAHCpK4V4M&start_radio=1 New York-based artist June McDoom has quietly been on our radar for a while. Her haunting vocals and delicate musicality giver her sound a fairy-like quality, truly one of the most interesting voices in modern folk music. On Bandcamp the song is described as “a dub bassline and a shoegaze shimmer met in the middle, in the last place you would think to look for either one”. ‘Without You’ is the second track of her upcoming album ‘Follow the Light’, to be released in October. For fans of: Cocteau Twins, The Sundays corto.alto ft. anaiis – ‘APRIL’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtDdI7OoKgU&list=RDRtDdI7OoKgU&start_radio=1 This is our selection from corto-alto’s new album ‘SOME SMALL FORTUNE’ which features a variety of interesting collaborations. Rising French singer anaiis provides vocals for this smooth track . With some beautiful piano work and a beat that’ll get you swaying, it’s the perfect song to close out summer. For fans of: Kokoroko, Yazmin Lacey Westside Cowboy – ‘Well Done Kid, You Did It’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pq6XgA1B5GA&list=RDPq6XgA1B5GA&start_radio=1 There was a period of time a few months ago when a few indie bands all seemed to be battling it out to see who could successfully leverage their rising fame to become a mainstay in the scene, and it seems Westside Cowboy may have come out on top. ‘It Goes On’ is a brilliant first album full of standout tracks but the guitar work and harmonies on display here make it one of our favourites. This collab with Australian producer DJ Boring is more classic than their traditional jankier (complimentary) releases, but has a nostalgic summertime club feel.
