NEW SINGLE RELEASE - Trevor Horn, Iggy Pop, and Lambrini Girls 'Personal Jesus'

“Personal Jesus” is an iconic 1980s hit by electronic music kings, Depeche Mode. The song has since been covered by Johnny Cash in 2002, Marilyn Manson in 2004, and most recently, the one and only, Iggy Pop.

He is joined on the track by his “favourite new band”, the eminent, wild, trailblazing punk group, Lambrini Girls.

The cover is part of the legendary new album “Echoes: Ancient & Modern”, compiled by Trevor Horn – “the man who invented the 80s” – which will feature eleven singles covered by icons through the ages. The album is set for release on December 1st, and features covers of some of the world’s best-known artists, from Nirvana to Billy Idol, Grace Jones, to Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

The well-known guitar riff sticks true to the original, but paired with Iggy’s renowned husky voice, there is renewed, smooth richness to the song.

The Lambrini Girls add another layer to the hit. These fiery feminists are a Brighton-born band, of Phoebe Lunny, Lilly Macieira, and a soon-to-be-announced drummer. The group are a renewal of the liberation of punk. “Punk in itself was about inciting positive change”, Lunny says in an NME interview, and these free spirits sure are the revival of this ideology. The girls should be commended for their ‘take-no-shit’ attitude when it comes to creating a safe space at their gigs and are an example to be followed by every other artist in the industry. Their music corroborates their attitude, creating some really badass tunes, that call out sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and sexual harassment. They showcased these inspired songs at Iggy’s festival “Dog Day Afternoon” in July of this year. In true punk fashion, following in the footsteps of the founding father of the crowd surf, Iggy himself, the girls put on an electric performance. These 21st Century feminist punks are a force to be reckoned with.

The band are currently touring the Netherlands and will return to the UK for a performance in Brighton on December 8th.
