Having met and now residing in London, Kit Sebasian is a duo made of Turkish and French artists Merve Erdem and Kit Martin, Their music is a meeting point of different genres from Anatolian Psychedelia and Brazilian Tropicalia to 60’s European pop and American jazz.
In their late-night suave new single ‘L’addio’, the band showcases their mastery of production and orchestration, incorporating elements like strings, horns, and even features an unexpected Italian synth discovered in a French dump. Drawing inspiration from Italian soundtracks and iconic female singers like Mina and Rita Pavone, the song opens with a break that is bound to ignite the interest of samplers. The melody and lyrics carry a heartfelt and yearning tone, reminiscent of the poignant closing scenes of a love affair, gracefully intertwining with the slow, psych-funk-dramatic backing track.
Delving into the inspiration behind the lyrics, Merve reveals that they were inspired by observing the drug-addicted occupants of a flat across from their window, where a revolving door of visitors frequented each night. From the perspective of an addict on the verge of their next fix, the lyrics explore the bittersweet nature of a relationship that reaches its end.
Having spent 2022 touring and writing, Kit Sebasian appear to be back with an international bang. Listen to ‘L’addio’ now:
