Cheery has released their third single of 2023 ‘Bliss’ recently, following on from ‘Vulture’, and ‘Concept of Love,’ – originally released 2 years previously. The kansas-born artist currently resides in Liverpool, UK, and produced this track with Eric Davis (from the band Hembree).

The latest track delves into the world of meaning when it comes to ‘Bliss’ and what it means to us. How we feel it and how we make it each our own. The lyrics post what it means to feel ‘Bliss’; a vague emotion that seems to settles somewhere on the spectrum of happy, nostalgic and calm.

“And til I don’t exist nothing could mean more than me than this.”

“Bliss is whatever we do when we’re together. Time’s not real but how we feel is honest, I promise.”

The music video has also been released, last week, by Cheery’s label Spirit House Records. The track, with a run time of 4:12 minutes, and the video, creates a colourful and ethereal vibe from the sound alone, and is played on well in the music video.

Cheery, in previous music videos, has explored image and played with the visual medium. Her videos are often a power-house of diverse women and feminine peoples, and play with colour saturation to depict the emotions, particularly in her previous music video for ‘Concept of Love,’ where red was almost bloody in how it drenched in the singer, and the metallic fun purples contrasted to the emotional tone shift the singer took on halfway through. And yet, ‘Bliss’ follows suit. The different pastels, a rainbow of all things fun, as different objects flit across the screen – a flamingo, a lava lamp, etc. The video does well to keep the contrast the Cheery seems to revel in playing with in her music.
