NEW SINGLE RELEASE - Austel 'Beds of Stone'

London based songwriter and producer, Austel has dropped her new single ‘Beds of Stone’.

This new release, although still holding the same ghostly vocals we’ve heard previously, sees Austel experiment more with production sonically. Similar to that of, her musical influences. Which include a large arry of various styles and genres, such has Thom Yorke, Cocteau Twins or young Nick Cave. It’s understandable that the artist spent summer supporting the alternative/indie band Fleet Foxes. The new track brings together the artist’s thrilling vocal range and backing beats steeped in atmospheric autotune. Which one may assume would take away from the vocals but only excels the depth to Austel’s final product.

The dream-pop artist last release was the 2022 piano ballet “Feathers” which took much influence from her classical music background. In ‘Beds of Stones’, we see her play with the genre of alt-folk and indie/dream pop. Through hunting self harmonies and experimental vocal production Austel immerses us further in to a solitude of emotions.

Lyrically, taking homage to the artist roots in Devon England for erry costal imagery of caves and ‘never ending waves’ which allows Austel to reflect on what seems to be a state of morning the absence of someone. As the artist yearns for future warmth and rebirth from whatever situation seems to have her hiding out from the world. Delicate tones contrast with soulful drones. Over beats which swell and fade peacefully creating an electronic lullaby. Distorted guitar builds texture to the song’s rhythmic pace. It’s clear to see that Austel is brunching out in and playing with genres, whilst positioning herself amongst her strengths. We can look forward to see her only build from here, as she continues to gain fans and critiques around the world. This recent release holds a lot depth for what one might consider a heartache track but Austel craftsmanship allows for continuous replays.
