INTERNATIONAL EP RELEASE - Joshua '2.23' ft yeule

After what can only be described as an utterly tireless run of releases from Reims, France-based producer Joshua throughout 2023, we were blessed to receive their 12th and final drop of the year in the form of his EP 2.23 on New Year's Eve.

A short and sweet project, 2.23 spans over three tracks and clocks in at just under six and a half minutes altogether. While all three tracks showcase Joshua’s exploration of ambient sounds, by far and away ‘we kissed in the park where my idols tried to commit suicide’ stands out as the project’s most interesting and compelling track (and not just because of the title).

The track features a sample of UK-based non-binary artist Yeule’s song ‘Desire’, a track that explores feelings of infatuation and passion alongside a stripped-back and ambient production style. Joshua’s effortless ability to blend contrasting sounds and themes into their production is on full display on this track, as it incorporates elements of breakbeat and drum n’ bass while never straying too far from the song’s original foundations in ambient sounds. Yeule’s airy and ethereal vocals remain front and centre on ‘we kissed in the park’ adapting surprisingly well to the change of tempo that came with Joshua’s production. This synthesis transports the listener to that momentary feeling of ignorant bliss that the song’s title describes in such detail.
