New Single: Dalia ‘Hanging by a Thread’

New Single: Dalia ‘Hanging by a Thread’ London based singer Dalia is back with the single ‘Hanging by a Thread’ just in time for summer. The track is an exploration of self discovery, realisation, and emotional vulnerability. By Natasha Judge Currently Listening to: ‘Hanging By a Thread’ is an experimental track that starts with a voice note, and then weaves this into the song as a motif throughout. Speaking on the tune, Dalia expressed that the track was written “during a period of intense personal turmoil”, as she noted that she was forced to confront repressed emotions. She said: “Hanging By a Thread chronicles the breakdown of a relationship weighed down by unhealed wounds.” The track is a pop ballad that celebrates and recognises the strength in vulnerability and emphasises the empowerment that can come from owning your tears and subsequent emotions. The song was a result of Dalia realising she was still tied to a past relationship whilst with a new love, and the fallout of the unresolved connection. ‘Hanging by a Thread’ unravels her inner monologue of feeling lost, confused and guilty. Musically, the melancholy lyrics juxtapose with the rhythmic base of the tune. There is a build-up of guitar strumming, paired well with percussion to provide an electric feel to the single by the end of the track. This pop track is an excellent portrayal of self-reflection, and coming of age, and the catchy chorus makes us eager to hear more of this new sound from Dalia. Dalia’s tracks would be well suited to fans of Holly Humberstone, Phoebe Bridgers and Gracie Abrams. You might also like ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ Recent Posts ⋆⭒˚.⋆

‧͙⁺˚*・༓ New Single Release ༓・*˚⁺‧͙ OURAA ‘The Promise’ There is no stopping OURAA from delivering a catchy and uplifting message drowning in rich harmonies. After releasing her song Bed Bugs in October last year, she is back with a promise. 01.05.24 Words by Layla Wheatley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-n5OmZNhJU In case you have missed out on following OURAA’s journey since her entrance to the music scene in 2019 with her first single release, ‘What Do You Want’, she is a musician from South London with an incredible voice and musicality. She is a self-proclaimed “pick-n-mix” artist, meaning she takes great joy in mixing and exploring different genres of music that best support her artistic aims and message. Her sound so far has included features reminiscent of R&B, Afro-swing, gospel, jazz, alternative soul, afro beats, and pop genres. OURAA is a favourite here at New Age Magazine, with her infectious positive personality that shines through in all of her music as well as her lyrical honesty, using her music as a diary to express herself and navigate her way through life. The promise OURAA makes in this song was originally a self-inspiring message to remind herself to keep moving forward and not to give up when you’re close to achieving your dreams, no matter how difficult it may seem, which extends to the listener encouraging others and delivering a message of self-empowerment and hope. The unique rich gospel harmonies with the fast-paced club-like tune add a special quality to this piece, really compounding this underlying message. The catchy bass line, along with mixing techniques including drops and voice manipulation, produces an addictive sound, enticing you to listen to every lyric, perfect for the upcoming festival season. ⋆。⋆𐙚 New Single Release ⋆。: VASSIŁINA “Crooked”
⋆。⋆𐙚 New Single Release ⋆。: VASSIŁINA “Crooked” Athens and London based Vassilina returns with her first release for her upcoming album. 19.03.24 Words by Giannis Nikodimos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HFIDsGhXRs ‘Femmeland” titled “Crooked”. After releasing her debut LP Fragments in 2021, VASSIŁINA is about to unleash her most awaited album, Femmeland. With its latest release, VASSIŁINA explores themes of reflection, acceptance, and the transforming power of embracing one’s true self through a musical study that goes beyond pop and electronic music borders. A series of thirteen electronic dark-pop compositions, Femmeland is a new chapter in VASSIŁINA’s journey of self-healing, saying goodbye to a former existence in London, and coming to terms with who she is. The album is a powerful emotional journey that explores the nuances of mental health, long-term sickness, bereavement, and traumatic experiences while discovering love and trust in other people. It is a powerful experience that resonates with the strength gained in accepting one’s actual self and the acceptance of inner voices. The song starts with an intense feedback noise and a trip-hop and slow-tempo ambiance, and it transitions to a synthpop anthem filled with maximalist elements in production and a strong essence of reverbed soundscapes. It is deeply rooted in pop-structure songwriting with a lot of avant-garde elements and lyrical themes. The influences of the two cities can be heard in the sound in the subconscious vibe that the song has. Overall, it is always nice seeing talented artists from my city thriving and building a wider audience filled with fresh ideas and good artistic vision and this single is a very dynamic introduction to what is to come. New Single Release: Kirsty Grant “Outerbody”
New Single Release: Kirsty Grant “Outerbody” Kirsty Grant has delivered pop-perfection with her latest single ‘Outerbody’. It achieves what pop does at its best: transporting the listener to a happier, carefree place where all that matters is the tunes. 05.02.24 Words by Olivia Rix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAMRnc4TrlM It’s the perfect dose of escapism to defeat January blues, and take you to that feeling of being in the club, dancing, surrounded by your best friends, or dancing in a world of your own. It’s a song for getting ready, and equally for the taxi back home. I for one want to hear this banger at the gay clubs in 2024, but I will also be playing it loud and dancing like nobody’s watching in my bedroom. This feeling of euphoric solipsism is in her lyrics: ‘In the crowd Might as well be alone Cause nothing else feels like home.’ Her personal lyrics are paired wonderfully with a catchy hook and chorus. This is definitely a sing-along anthem, it’s hard not to find yourself belting ‘cause it feels so good!’ Before this track, Grant released her cover of ‘Disturbia’ which was her production debut. She reinvigorated the classic with interpolated vocals, piano, and her dreamy, sweet-sounding voice. Her ‘Disturbia’ cover feels exciting, and ‘Outerbody’ is the perfect follow up from this to showcase her lyricism and fresh sounding pop sound. Sharing her feelings about the song, Grant said “I would love the listener to actually experience the song, and be taken out of whatever stresses they are dealing with, and get lost in it. I love that the lyrics describe how you can be on your own, or surrounded by people in a club, but when your favourite song comes on, you can just be taken out of everything and be in a world of your own.” She has certainly achieved that vibe with this song, and if you give it a listen you can let yourself get lost in it. Grant has started 2024 off on a high, and the rest of the year still awaits! View this post on Instagram A post shared by kirsty (@kirstygrant) You Might Also Like
New Single Release: Millie Turner “Venus”
New Single Release: Millie Turner “Venus” Returning gracefully with her first single release since 2021, Millie Turner pays homage to her own femininity in a refreshing track which appreciates the natural beauty of womanhood. 05.02.24 Words by Katie Ahearn https://youtu.be/0rNrOEJ69qk A ‘bang’ would be too violent address singer-songwriter Millie Turner’s return to the music industry. Her new single, ‘Venus’ is more of a sparkle: a shimmering star that plays like the lovechild of Lorde and FKA Twigs. A letter of adoration to the mythological goddess Venus, a glittering melody and gentle drums harmonize with mellow, pitchy vocals, evoking both the softness and strength of femininity. The imagery of the ocean has the same effect, a thought echoed in the underwater visual of the single’s cover art. A submerged, softly focused Turner seems to be immersed in the quiet power of her own womanhood as she gazes at the camera. At first, the track’s ethereal soundscape appears threatened by the pre-chorus “sharpen the claws, bending the verse, digging the way to space for Venus”. But that’s not without good reason, Turner explains in an Instagram post: “I pictured a group of scientists with their notebooks and sampling backs on an expedition to mine Venus for her soil,” “But beauty is always more mysterious and complex, and we cannot use rationality to play its games.” It serves to highlight Turner’s message that subtle beauty may be unexpected, but once noticed, it cannot be ignored. The track is the sonic twin of the building of a gentle wave, rising into a chorus before softly falling back into surrounding verse. Drums and cello dance hand in hand with Turner’s vocals. And with the lyrics “I took to the sky/and saw the rocket breathing residue/they saw that I saw you first”, it is emphasised that a woman’s own beauty is appreciated by herself in a way that cannot be perceived by others. It’s clear Turner is an aesthete, turning a blind eye to Venus’ other, less-visual qualities of prosperity and victory. But with lilting vocals akin to a siren’s, it’s hard not to be convinced by her sentiment. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Millie Turner (@millieturner) You Might Also Like
