Touching on themes of female liberation, empowerment, and gender equality, Beau has since continued to be the embodiment of why women deserve their place in the music industry.
Beau has formed ‘The Beau Bennett Collective’, adding a talented selection of musicians to compliment her sound: electric guitarist, Ben Hope, drummer, Jack Simpson, and pianist, Elliot Iddon. Beau, herself, is the vocalist, acoustic guitarist, and lyricist of the quartet. The Cornwall-based collective released their debut single this week, ‘Apricity’.
Apricity, meaning, ‘the light or warmth of the winter Sun’, is a concept to which Beau feels a personal connection, evident in her raw and intimate lyrics. She considers this hibernal sun to be her guiding light, helping her “navigate through conflicting emotions of angst and euphoria, to ultimately realise the beauty in these moments of ‘Apricity’”.
The illusion of apricity is achieved within the song itself, upon the combination of the warmth of Beau’s soulful voice with the swelling instruments of the collective. The powerful lyrics allude to new beginnings, and align with the slow burn build-up of the layering instruments to make this song the ultimate cathartic release of euphoria and rebirth. Finishing on the comforting twangs of Hope’s guitar solo, listeners will be left in awe; inspired, refreshed, and enraptured.
Their empowering debut release rightfully earned them BBC Introducing in The South-West’s Track of the Week. The band are currently working on developing this track into what will be an undoubtedly captivating EP, to be released later this year.
Beau prides her status as a musician on breaking down barriers faced by female artists in the music industry, and empowering those women who are fighting the battle alongside her. Despite progress in the number of top-selling female artists in recent years, the proportion of accredited female songwriters is meagre at best. To counter this imbalance, Beau, alongside fellow event organiser and singer-songwriter, Caitlin Pinkess, are creating a safe space for female lyricists to debut or develop their songwriting and performing capabilities. ‘She’s The Moment’ is happening in Next Door Records, London, on January 30th – a celebration of female talent that is not to be missed.
