Pressing play on the 2022 debut EP titled ‘Songs About Hands’ now feels like I have found a teleport that sends me to a serene and magical place, where time seems to stand still, and the worries of the world fade away.

Performing with her guitar, Bristol-based Emily Perry has adopted the stage name Pem. Her voice is a gentle husky whisper, evoking the image of a mother comforting her child with soft and soothing words. With stratospheric high notes, sweeping vocal leaps, and velvety vibrato trills, she forges an enchanting melody that floats effortlessly over intricate arrangements and intimate storytelling.

‘Songs About Hands’ is a poetic exploration of the intricate dance of adult communication, revealing the moments of connection and disconnection between lovers. With a delicate touch, she captures the essence of the physical touch that often accompanies falling in love, evoking a sense of intimacy and vulnerability that is both powerful and fragile. Her lyrics paint a vivid picture of the joy, the heartache, and the tender moments that make up the relationship, leaving me feeling like a ghost haunting an old memory. Each track reflects the emotions that swirl within us when we are in love, a reminder of the power of music to capture the human experience in all its beauty and complexity.
