Exploring themes of regrowth and rebuilding, the track’s all about navigating your way through a break-up and trying to rediscover who you are on your own. Izzy proves herself yet again to be a powerful lyricist with the opening verse, ’Without you I don’t like Sundays, I don’t read cos’ I can’t think straight, Its like I’ve been locked out of my own life I keep going to our favourite places thinking if I retrace my steps back, then I’ll find a way to put this right.’
Moving away from the punchy, up-beat sound of her last hit, the single is slower in pace and more meaningful and reflective. Izzy shows herself to be diverse whilst maintaining a distinct, recognisable sound. Citing influences such as Avril Lavigne, ‘Without You I Don’t Like Sunday’s’ could be easily comparable to Avril’s smash hit ’Complicated’ in style and tone.
Izzy’s captivating sound and the emotional impact her music conveys could be put down to the fact that she found her initial voice through poetry, which then evolved into the musical expression we hear now. The singer-songwriter took to instagram to reveal, ‘After a breakup I wrote a song called Without You I Don’t like Sundays. It started as a poem, and at first it felt quite vulnerable to share with anyone.’
Describing the meaning of the track in her own words, Izzy’ S.O puts it simply, ‘It’s about reminding yourself that you aren’t just a sum up of the people un your life and that you can just walk around on a Sunday, buy a nice book and drink coffee in a coffee shop on your own. You can create your own safety.’
‘Without You I Don’t Like Sunday’s’ is out Friday 22nd of September and is available for pre-save now.
