Lucky Iris - 'something to believe in'

Lucky Iris’ vibrant new single will brighten up your day

Lucky Iris is a Leeds-based alt-pop duo, that makes ‘crunchy electronic pop music’, composed of Maeve, the lead vocalist, and Jasper. They released their much-anticipated EP ‘Maybe I’m too much’ back in August 2023, which received a wave of praise and recognition across the UK. Lucky Iris is a massive Spurs fan, with the duo being featured on the Tottenham Hotspur website. Their newest single ‘Something to believe in’ was co-written and co-produced by Lucky Iris and Ben Matravers, showcasing their incredible songwriting and notable soundscape which keeps you longing for more.

‘Something to believe in’ has an infectious sound that just makes you want to dance – perfect for the start of the summer. One-half of Lucky Iris, Maeve, explained that pop music and football are the inspiration behind the song, both elements which offer support when life gets tough. Out of appreciation for the art of music and football, notably the Spurs, ‘something to believe in’ was born.

The lyrics express a longing for connection and validation, seeking someone or something that can provide that emotional support. The narrator feels incomplete without someone to believe in them, yearning for safety and stability during difficult times. The song captures the universal human experience of needing a reliable and loving community to feel supported in this world. As a listener, you can truly feel the duo’s vulnerability. Their sound beautifully combines Maeve’s expressive vocals with the ‘backdrop of analogue synths’ and strong beats.

Their self-described DYI pop music has found a new fanbase, with more appreciation being given to the alternative, independent pop genre. If you like Chappell Roan and Charli XCX – and let’s be honest, who doesn’t – you are sure to love Lucky Iris’ catchy and emotional alt-pop soundscape.
